The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) gives you many opportunities to learn new things and meet new people. This experience is completely free and you will learn things like first aid and how to communicate freely without any fear of being made fun of, as all ideas are taken into account. As a member of YAB I completely support the idea of a safe place for people my age, where they can escape the idea of any type of pressure that may be upon them. We encourage many people to come along to support the rest of your peers, as someone may be in trouble without us noticing. (And if you come you may be given food.)
A while ago in tutorial students filled out a form for the Youth Advisory Board (or YAB) where it asked our opinions on what teenagers are having trouble with or what they have noticed around their peers. From these results we found that the most troubling issues are self-harm, drugs, smoking and vaping. With the 1,238 responses we have decided to focus on mental health as we felt that this may have been the reason for these things happening. Focussing on this topic, we will create a safe environment where people who are concerned about their well being will have a safe place to talk about their feelings, without being judged and without anything being repeated.
If you would like to join us then come along to PO3 any Wednesday afternoon.
