For the past year, Fakenham College Council has been raising money for West Norfolk Mind, a mental health charity. The College voted this to be our charity-of-the-year when the Council first took over in January. It was a year filled with bake sales; Valentine’s day, Easter, Summer, Halloween, and Christmas. Alongside this we have had a Halloween Dress up event, a Christmas Jumper day and a well supported biscuit decorating event. It wasn’t just the efforts of the 8 council members: the whole sixth form took part in a sponsored walk from Fakenham to Wells-next-the-sea. This raised over £500, resulted in many blisters and greatly helped the year 12 students to become a stronger team. We chose the charity West Norfolk Mind due to the support it provides many people in our community and the necessity to support those suffering mental health issues. One member of the College Council was able to witness first hand the amazing support network this charity has helped to create across West Norfolk and the critical facilities it runs daily offering food for those who need it. We are pleased to announce that we have achieved our fundraising goal of £1,111.43 - all of which was donated to Mind at our annual Christmas lunch event on the 16th of December. Everyone enjoyed the Christmas lunch, as the food was excellent and the council had organised a “Would I Lie to You?” competition with the teachers, based on the popular BBC comedy panel show.
