Dear parents and carers of Year 11 students,
As you know the main Year 11 public exams begin in May so I wanted to take this opportunity to invite you to a “Preparing for Success” evening at Fakenham Academy.
Why are we holding a ‘Preparing for Success’ evening?
Better exam results give people more choice about what they do in the future. Psychologists have carried out research that shows people with more choice in their lives are generally happier.
The next few weeks will be very important for students, parents and carers but also demanding and at times stressful. We know that parents and carers can have a big impact. We want to work together to make sure all students reach their potential.
There are some things that can really help. A recent study suggested the following things are the most important to support students: Being a role model, helping them set goals, keeping them active, eating healthily, helping them have time out, working on sleep patterns, helping them to unplug their devices, staying cool and calm, having belief in them and being supportive.
When and where is the ‘Preparing for Success’ evening being held?
On Thursday 26th April between 5pm and 6pm at Fakenham Academy in the school hall.
What will the evening cover?
There will be presentations from staff and former students which will include the following:
- how to manage the next few weeks and what has worked in the past
- ideas and strategies about how to make the most of the remaining time
- revision planning
- online opportunities
- how parents can help
- hints and tips for revision
- arriving prepared for the exams
- maintaining a positive outlook and attitude towards the exams
- advice on eating and sleeping well.
What other opportunities are available to students?
Personalised revision timetable: Students have been helped to produce a revision timetable with their form tutor. This should form the basis of their revision from now on.
Intervention and revision classes in school: I have enclosed a sheet detailing the revision opportunities that are still running at Fakenham Academy. This was also enclosed with the mock exam results that were posted home recently.
Online opportunities: SAM Learning, GCSE pod and PiXL Apps are all platforms that we have purchased for the year 11 students to use and make the most of.
If you would like to attend the evening, please email Mr Kris Marshall-Smith firstname.lastname@example.org or phone the school on 01328 857000 saying which student in Year 11 you are attending with.
I do hope that you are able to attend this important evening with your student. I know that working together we can all make sure that they make the most of the remaining time and that we all work together to help them achieve their potential.
