On Tuesday 4th June, Fakenham Academy participated in the North Norfolk Partnership School Games Athletics Event at the UEA Sportspark with five other schools. The day started off bright, with the sun shining and Fakenham picking up the first of their medals very early on. Special mentions to Mylo Hill for achieving a gold in the 400m, with a close sprint finish against another competitor and the same story for Arminas Dovainis who qualified from both the 100m and 200m heats and achieved gold and silver in the finals - a fantastic achievement. Additional golds went to Harriett Baldock (Long Jump), Alice Hobbs (Javelin), Katie Mcloughlin (Discus) and Alex Potter (Discus) during the morning session.
Despite the clouds rolling in, Fakenham’s fortunes did not change and they continued to pick up further medals throughout the day. Again, special mention to the following for achieving gold medals in their events: Henry Robb (Long Jump), Mylo Hill (Triple Jump), Tomass Koncis (Discus and High Jump), Charlie Esposito (High Jump), Alice Hobbs (100m) and Isobel Bennett (800m).
A big well done to all those who competed and those who achieved additional medals. I am very proud to state that we had three double gold medallists - Alice Hobbs, Tomass Koncis and Mylo Hill. Olympians of the future…?
It also gives me great pleasure to announce that we had our best ever overall result this year achieving 2nd place out of all the schools in attendance. The boys team were the overall winners and the girls achieved a respectable 4th place.
This was my last Athletics meet as I will be leaving Fakenham Academy this year, so am very pleased to be bowing out after a very successful season. I hope the team goes from strength to strength in the future.
