Fakenham selected their best athletes across the school years 7-10 and headed off to the UEA for the Partnership Athletics; the second athletics meet in the calendar after the first one of the summer at Gresham’ School the previous month. Students were excited about the event, as unlike the first event, this one was completed in year groups, rather than age bands.
On the Tuesday morning, Mr Savage and several Sixth Form helpers accompanied 40 students to the UEA for an 11am start. Despite Mr Savage getting told off for walking across the grass area in the middle of the track as soon as they had arrived, Fakenham students were, as always, very well behaved and were also very successful.
The boys began their events on the track, whilst the girls started on the field events. Several students performed exceptionally well, including those who ‘filled in’ at late notice due to some withdrawals on the day. In total, there were 20 Golds achieved by Fakenham students, as well as 24 Silver medals and 25 Bronze ones.
The 20 gold medallists were as follows: Cole Enifer, Joe Tarry, Alfie Cator, Robert Bond, Mylo Hill, Joe Lockhart, the Y9 boys relay team (Shea Durrant, Aidan Coombes, Alfie Cator and Mylo Hill), Edie Topping, Katie McLoughlin, Mia Smith, Beth Suckling, Harriett Baldock, Scarlett Curl, Emily Bingham and Annabel Nash.
Charlie Fish Y8 won 6 medals for 100m, 200m and Relay in the North Norfolk & Norfolk Athletics held at Gresham's and UEA respectively.
All students performed very well and were a credit to the school. The students named above and a few others have all qualified for the next round on Thursday 21st June at the UEA Sportspark.
