On Saturday 24th November 2018, Fakenham Academy Equestrian Team competed in a inter school competition at Lime Kiln Farm in Thursford.
The team have competed in the “Alderman Peel High School and Norfolk Schools Christmas Showjumping” annually for the last 8 Years. This year was known exception. The classes ranged from 70cm to 90cm, we entered all three classes as individual and as teams.
In the 70 cm Maxwell Lake competed on Wesley as a individual. He had a beautiful clear round and entered the jump off, during so he missed one of the fences hence is score did not count.
In the 80 cm Class Milly Eckett on My Midnight Glory, Abigail George on Tally Ho and Maxwell Lake on Schoolmaster. Max entered first, who went clear in the first phase of the class and had one pole down in the jump off. This was then followed by Abigail who went round and got a double clear. Milly swiftly followed and also got an amazing double clear.
The next class was the 90cm class. All three riders entered this class a team. In the past the team had not entered the 90cm class as it is usually considered for more confident and more experienced riders, but this year we decided to give it ago which later proved to be a great decision. Milly entered first and got four faults, then followed Maxwell, he went clear in the first phase of the course but again knocked one pole in the jump off. Finally, Abigail entered but unfortunately also got four faults.
Although this did not matter as the pure delight seen on Mrs Bell’s face when she heard our team called for second place as a team and Maxwell coming forth as an individual was a sight they shall never forget, she was truly proud of them. Although we came second we were extremely close to the winning spot. But to us that didn’t matter as they were able to do both of there two managers Mrs Bell and Mrs Wacey and the school proud by achieving such an astonishing accomplishment!
Our next event is soon upcoming and we also again hope to do our Managers and our school proud.
