Recently Year 11 boys have been keeping themselves occupied by practicing their basketball skills on Thursday lunchtime in the school gym. Approximately 12 boys attend the session, all coached competently by Max Rabone.
After practising for only a few weeks the boys were thrown in at the deep end by Mrs Price who arranged a game against Dereham Neatherd.
This was their first game playing as a team and were led by the most creative of the players Sh’ma Hanikanai with multiple sunk shots from deep, even though he received an injury mid way through the game.
All the boys played well in their first game, moving up and down the court defending, then attacking against a team that had played together for a lot longer than Fakenham. The only differences between the teams were Dereham’s accuracy and teamwork but that was expected considering the short period of time the Fakenham Boys had played together.
Although the final score was 46-26 to Dereham one of the highlights of the game was when Mylo Hill hit a 3 pointer scoring the final basket for Fakenham just before the whistle was blown for full time.
Max Rabone commented after the game, “Although we lost 46-26 we are looking forward to learning from the experience and overall improving our game. We would also like to say a massive thanks to Mrs Price for giving us the opportunity to form a team and play against other schools.”
