After the success of Fakenham Academy’s U16’s both boys and girls at the North Norfolk Schools Championships and then the Norfolk Schools Championships it was time to head off to Thetford to represent Norfolk in the Regional School Badminton Championship.
The Boys consisting of Joe Lockhart, Kirk Myhill, Will Warnes and James Barratt were drawn against Bedford County and Debenham School representing Suffolk. Against Suffolk they won the match 4-1 however against Bedford the tournament favourites they lost 5-0. The boys therefore finishing second in their group were playing for 3rd place and the bronze medal against Hertsfordshire. Will Warnes won the first singles followed by a win in the doubles for Joe Lockhart and James Barrett to lead 2-0. Kirk Myhill lost his singles, but when Kirk and Joe won their doubles and Will and James won their final doubles they confirmed their 3rd place and the bronze medal with a 4-1 win.
The Girls consisting of Maddie Curl, Joanna Barton, Ella Scallan and Kerry-Ann Lee were drawn against Watford Grammar representing Hertsfordshire and Bungay High School representing Suffolk. Fakenham won their first match 3-2 against Hertsfordshire with Maddie winning her singles and Ella & Kerry and Joanna and Kerry winning their doubles. However in the second match they narrowly lost 3-2 against Suffolk to miss out playing for first and second place but earned the right to play for 3rd place and the bronze medal too. They were drawn against Bedford and after Joanna won her singles and Ella & Kerry and Joanna & Kerry won their doubles they confirmed their 3rd place and the bronze medal.
Both the boys and girls played exceptionally well and represented Fakenham Academy and Norfolk fantastically well and the school are really proud of their achievements in their final year.
