Immunisations Update:

We have received several enquiries regarding the planned immunisations and catch up sessions due in the summer term.

As outlined in the letter earlier today, the government has asked what we continue to provide the opportunity for students of key workers to attend school from Monday 23rd March onwards.


In light of the current situation regarding Covid 19/Coronavirus, we have taken the decision to suspend all payments for the activities due to take place in July. The deadline for payments was due to be the 1st April.

This is a very interesting question which elicits a number of very important answers. 


The Y8 Girls Handball team travelled to Stalham for their first fixture, a tournament with the hosts, ourselves, and Aylsham, and with little experience the girls were unsure of what to expect. However, once the games kicked off the girls put and doubts to ease rushing into the lead early on.

Date-29th January

Fakenham High School played three games winning all of them.Over all a great performance from everyone taking part.

On Monday 27th January Fakenham Academy and Sixth Form went to the Playhouse to watch 'A Lesson From Auschwitz', a play that explained why the Nazi's decided to use gas to commit genocide.

Year 7 have been building on core skills needed to appreciate the world around them. Part of this involves learning how to read maps precisely and use scale, symbols, direction and grid references.

Fakenham SEN Planning Exhibition – Friday 31st January 2020

There is an informal planning event being held later this month in relation to the new SEN school in Fakenham. 

Recently Year 11 boys have been keeping themselves occupied by practicing their basketball skills on Thursday lunchtime in the school gym. Approximately 12 boys attend the session, all coached competently by Max Rabone. 

Miss Frammingham was thinking of constructive ways to fill the 'cavernous' space that is the drama studio. In the lead up to Halloween, it was decided that the room would make a rather cosy batcave, and so the challenge began!

A Level Geography students at Fakenham Sixth Form were visited by Professor Richard Hey, a consulting environmental river engineer, to engage in discussions on the long term, sustainable management of river flooding.

On Friday 18th October a group of Key Stage 3,4 and 5 students were visited by Hannah from the National Writer's centre to try out some creative writing.

Fakenham Academy Library is kicking off its World Book Day festivities early, by announcing the return of Terry Sewell, accompanied by fellow Author Anna Tayler.

The U12 Netball team played their first fixture of the season against Aylsham High school.  Although the end result was a loss, they progressed massively throughout the game. Well done girls and lots to work on in the future.  Player of the match as voted by the Aylsham team went to Z.Pearce 

Fakenham Academy Year 10 Catering Students received an early Christmas present today, their chef uniforms have finally arrived! We all tried on and posed for the first time in front of the cameras.

Our Latin teacher, Mr Pegnel is celebrating the launch of his seventh book of poetry on Friday 25th October at Norwich Cathedral.

Cinderella Art at fakenham High School, although many of our poets may be so bashful they do not

sign their work!

Year 7, Year 10 and Year 11 ambassador photo proofs will be sent home with students on Friday 27th September. Full payment instructions are included in the order pack. Deadline for return of order forms and payment is Wednesday 9th October.

On Tuesday 24th September, the year 11 girls netball team played against Aylsham, Stalham and Cromer. 

In the first game, against Stalham, the girls played very well, winning 6-0.

The second game, against Cromer, was a very tough game, losing 10-3.

A group of year 10 students have been working hard, beginning their Photography GCSE course. It takes place after school once a week, then students must do lots of independent work at home. So far they have been looking at colour and texture.

The U13’s traveled to play against a strong APHS side on Thursday 19th September. We started very brightly and took the lead within the first 2 minutes after Charlie E met a corner perfectly and headed into the back of the net.

Fakenham boys played really well as a team for the first match of the season.


On Tuesday 17th September, the year 11 girls netball team played their first matches of the season against Reepham and Aylsham. 

In the first game, against Reepham , the girls played very well and won 5-3.

The second game, against Aylsham, was a tough game, losing 5-1.

On Tuesday 17th of September, FAN Yr9 took on APHS in a great game of football. At the start of the game FAN took matters into their hands with Benjamin.F putting us one up within just five minutes. As play resumed FAN couldn't help but by putting another one past the APHS keeper.

On Wednesday, Fakenham Year 11 had their first game of the season against APHS.  Fakenham were up for the game as we had never lost to Wells in the five years of playing them.  The game started and Fakenham were quickly on to the attack and sooner than later we capitalised with the ball breaking

Sports Day took place over 3 very hot days during CEW week this year.  Year 9 completing theirs on Monday, Year 8 on Tuesday and Year 7 on Wednesday.  For the safety of the children we completed some of the activities in the sports centre.  Those that took part were fantastic and worked incredibl

Fakenham Academy Norfolk completed a series of the beach cleans between 23rd July 2019 and 25th July 2019, taking place at Cromer, Mundesley and Overstand on the north Norfolk coast. These were whole school activities as part of the school’s Curriculum Enrichment Week.

27th June saw our annual Year 11 prom, held at Sussex Barn near Burnahm Market. The event is a chance to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 students on the completion of their GCSE exams and their time with us at Fakenham Academy.

Our Pets as Therapy friends Daisy the Dog and Jacqueline her owner came to see us for one last time this year, and this time she was the one giving out the treats, as well as receiving plenty herself too!

Year 9 Student Oliver has had a dramatic transformation recently, having braved the shave in aid of Big C cancer charity.

Summer Music at FAN


This term has seen lots of musical activities in the school and community.


A level art and Photography students entered the 2019 Norfolk Art and Design Competition, held at Norwich University of Art.

Last week the Year 7 students at Fakenham Academy Norfolk experienced an inspiring and wonderfully interesting series of Astronomy and Cosmology events. 

On July 1st Mrs Gray and Mrs Price took a small group of Year 8 and 9 girls (Rubie, Paige, Hollie, Emma, Kaisha, Aarshiya-Imani, Micks & Hannah) attended a Science & Technology Challenge Day at Ormiston Victory Academy.

On Tuesday 9th July 13 Year 9 students attended the North Norfolk Skills and Careers festival at Paston College were we took part in STEM activities such as "what happens if you put a cut grape in the microwave?", iodine clock,and making a habitat for brine shrimps using plastic bottles.

Fakenham Academy Norfolk has been awarded the Good Diabetes Care in School Award from Diabetes UK, demonstrating the care provided to children with diabetes in school.

Firstly is the team who attended the NNSSP Secondary Aquathlon at APHS.

We had four gold medal winners, they were: Charlie Page, Edie Topping, Luca Lawton and Darcey Bradford. They all enjoyed the event and behaved excellently.


Terry Sewell came to the academy this week and brought with him another Local Author -  Ali Carter to present our winning students with signed copies of "Bully For You".

The winners will also  be receiving certificates from Terry at the awards evening.


To celebrate our production of High School Musical, we are having a themed High School Musical Day on Friday 5th July.  You can dress up as a cast member or just wear your own clothes.  All clothing must be appropriate and not revealing.  The cost will be £1.

The U14 Fakenham Academy cricket team had their first match of the season against Reepham on Monday 24th June. After some poor weather forcing matches to be rearranged, it was nice to get a game played. 


On Friday 21st May, Students from Fakenham Academy took part in National Make Music Day. This saw some of our bands and ensembles gather to play in and around the school, and also in Fakenham at Fakenham Library.


This is just for information and any delay should be minimal, however we have been advised by the operator and Norfolk County Council there may be a delay to the the PM bus service.

Year 8 have been studying The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank in English lessons.

In English lessons, Year 7 students were invited to write to their favourite authors. We have been doing this for many years and often students get replies which are inspiring.

On Friday 5th and Saturday 6th July 2019, Fakenham Academy is delighted to bring you High School Musical On Stage, as performed by our students. please see the image for details on how to get your tickets, available from the school. Tickets are available from Wednesday 5th June.

Deforestation has been and is still a global issue. It concerns two of the potentially most threatening events to face our planet at present: climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

Year 8 recently completed a homework where their task was to design an original costume for an Alice in Wonderland character.  Mrs. Curtis was overwhelmed by the creativity shown.  Some pupils actually made costumes and props.  The costumes shown were created by Aaron, Mia and Elisha.

The Year 7's completed a homework where they had to create a poster advertising a competition to spend the night in a haunted mansion. The students have produced some excellent designs and have put a lot of thought and effort into their designs. Well done year 7!

On May 3rd Oliver  and Nathan  went along to Sheringham High School to take part in the final round of the Dudgeon-sponsored Lego Robotics competition.  See the latest Dudgeon Newsletter.


We have been advised by Travel and Transport Services at Norfolk County Council that students on Bus 7 at Gt Ryburgh will need to board the bus at Highfield until possibly the 9th May.

This is due to emergency works.

Introduction, From Mr D Eaves, Trip Leader

In a highly anticipated match, Fakenham took on Northgate at Thetford Rugby Club, with a host of spectators who had travelled down with the boys by coach.

On the 30th March 2019 the FAN Equestrian Team competed at Forest Edge Ariana in the NSEA Eventers Challenge. The Eventers Challenge is a course split into two halves. The first half is shoe jumps and the second half are cross country jumps. It’s aim is to test riders skill and ability.

The Big Bang trip was a fun, interesting and inspiring school trip that we are definitely not going to forget any time soon! There was an extraordinary amount of variety with the activities they provided.

Local business “Jack’s Gentleman’s Barbers” has set up a sponsorship program with the FAN Equestrian Team as of 01/03/2019.

On behalf of the whole team we would like to thank Jack for his kind generosity and supporting the local community.

It was the afternoon of Wed 13th March when Fakenham eagerly anticipated the arrival of Wymondham High for the semi-final clash in the County Bowl competition. Other than a strong wind, conditions were good for a game of rugby. 


Thursday 7th March saw the results of the Terry Sewell World Book Day Challenge announced. Terry, a children's book author, and former student of Fakenham High School, had set the challenge for students to write a short story.

On Thursday 7th February, students from Years 9 and 10 braved the annual UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. This is a 60 minute paper with 25 multiple choice questions. The questions are challenging and require creative thinking and use of Mathematics to solve correctly.

Year 12 Fakenham Sixth Form A Level Geogaphers completed annual coastal monitoring of the Salthouse shingle ridge on the north Norfolk coast on Monday 25th February 2019, during unseasonally warm weather.

Over the last two weeks of the Spring 1 half-term Computer Club ran a Cryptography Escape Room competition, a follow-on from the first Cryptography Challenge last November.  Students had to decipher clues using their knowledge of cryptography.

I took a group of year7, 8 and 9 students to the UEA to participate in a School Sports Partnership event. They experienced five activities during the day, including; Box-fit, fencing, ninja assault, climbing and My-ride.

Stalham High School hosted an U13 boys handball event last Wednesday 6th February. Six schools were represented including: North Walsham, Aylsham, Reepham, Stalham and Wells (APHS). This was the first time we had played in a handball event and we started well, winning our first game.

On Thursday 7th February, Fakenham Academy Library was host to a careers event to help inspire students in Year 9 when making their options choices. Further Education Providers and Services such as the NHS came along to talk to students and parents about careers in different areas.

On Tuesday 15th January Fakenham Academy attended the annual North Norfolk Schools cross country trials at North Walsham High School.  It was a gloriously sunny but very cold afternoon.  All students represented the academy FANtastically and 4 students qualified for the Norfolk Schools cross coun

Year 8 and 9 geographers have been looking at the social, economic and environmental implications of not having access to the most basic of resources: water.

A Fakenham Sixth Form A Level Geography student, has had an article on their Non Examined Assessment published in the Geographical Association’s ‘Teaching Geography’ Spring 2019 journal.

Fakenham Academy Year 11 GCSE Geography students had their revision brought to life, through an informative visit from Andrew Steele. Andrew works for Kinnerton Confectionery based in Fakenham, who are fourth largest chocolate producer in Great Britain.

Year 9 students at Fakenham Academy were able to gain real-life insight into the design, operation and marketing of renewable energy from offshore wind farms, through a hugely successful ‘Renew Your Future Energy’ day held at Fakenham Academy.

Jack has been learning lots of fun things about the Microbit at Code Club on Monday lunchtimes. He has made a Reaction Game and a Fortune Teller game. This week he finished his Frustration game.

On the 27th January 2019 the Fakenham Academy Equestrian Team competition at Forest Edge Arena at an inter-school event run by NSEA (National School Equestrian Association). Unfortunately only two member of the team were able to compete due to unforeseeable circumstances.

Fakenham Sixth Form was very lucky to have the visit of Joséphine, a French Year 13 student, who had the chance to stay with Holly Wilson. Joséphine enjoyed her English stay very much and was even able to give a hand in the Year 11 French class.

We arrived at Beeston Hall with high spirits amongst the team and a warm welcome from Beeston.

Local Business ‘Jem Lake Handmade Kitchens and Interiors’ have successfully set up a sponsorship programme with the Fakenham Academy Equestrian Team after witnessing their astounding progress at recent event.

On Wednesday 28th November 12 Year 10 girls attended the "Women of the future conference 2018" at the John Innes Centre Norwich. This conference was a unique event designed to inspire the next generation of female STEM professionals.

Fakenham Academy Year 10 Catering Students received an early Christmas present today, their chef uniforms have finally arrived! We all tried on and posed for the first time in front of the cameras.

On Saturday 24th November 2018, Fakenham Academy Equestrian Team competed in a inter school competition at Lime Kiln Farm in Thursford.

January 2018 an e-mail arrived at the school, addressed to no-one in particular. The e-mail told the exciting news about a robotics competition which would be held at Sheringham High School with a view to finding a team to go forward to an international competition in Estonia.

9Geog Beta have been studying the tropical rainforest in their Geography lessons with Mrs Walker. To develop their understanding of the complex ecosystem and its layers of plant and animal life, they have constructed a model of the rainforest.

Fakenham Academy Norfolk has been nominated for the Diabetes UK Good Diabetes Care in School Award. The award celebrates and showcases schools that deliver good care and support  to children and teenagers with Type 1 diabetes.

During the first quarter FAN scored 4 goals and RHS scored 2 goals. In the second quarter FAN scored 8 goals and RHS scored 3 goals. In the third quarter FAN scored 2 goals and RHS scored 3 goals. In the last quarter FAN didn’t score any goals but RHS scored 4 goals.

Fakenham has played CNS previously a few years ago and came away without a victory then and sadly, this was again the case. CNS, despite not fielding a full XV were up for the game from the off and ran in their first try within the first two minutes of the game.

The last game of the U14’s pool required a trip to Reepham, whom the boys were relishing the prospect of playing as previous games had been rather one sided in Fakenham’s favour.

On Wednesday 7th November, the Under 14’s traveled to Redbridge to compete in the Tier 3, Under 14 Eastern Region hockey finals.  They became Norfolk champions back in October when they won the Norfolk finals.

At 11o'clock on Friday 9th November, Flanders poppy seeds, supplied by North Norfolk district council, were sown by 9ScBeta to commemorate the Centenary of World War 1 Armistice, as a symbol of remembrance and respect for all those whose lives have been impacted by war.

“Nobody can think the same, but you can help people live with their differences.” If there was a lasting impression to leave upon a group young adults, Fran Unsworth has found it.

 On Monday 8th October, year 8/7 went to Aylsham for a hockey tournament. We played against two Reepham teams, Cromer, Aylsham and against each other. We had two teams, team 2 and team 3. Team 2 held an amazing battle against 5 different teams including the match against each other.

During October, the Year 11 Hospitality and Catering students have been working towards completing their practical examinations, which counts towards 40% of their final awarded grade. The task brief asks students to propose 2 dishes that would be suitable for a bistro style menu.

Fakenham hosted TGA for one of their pool games. Despite missing a few key players from last season through injury and moving school, Fakenham started brightly and scored a try within the first 5 minutes.

Fakenham travelled to Stalham on the back of a very successful last season, where they won the league at their first attempt. Both the teacher and students alike thought that this would continue into this season.

On Wednesday 19th of September 2018 FAN faced Alderman Peel on a U13 Football match. The game was mostly dominated by FAN in the early minutes of the game with Jasper Stagg putting us one up.

The day was very windy and the ground soft and damp.

We had a full team of 13 but no substitutes and had to utilize 2 years 7’s to make that number up.

U14 Football


We had very good composure to score 7 goals and to not concede at all, we were strong throughout the match with two players getting 3 goals each. Overall we played very well and we were the much better team.

On Thursday 13th September 2018 we played against APHS. We lost 14-4, unfortunately we had a disappointing first quarter where we didn't score any but they scored 7. The second quarter was a bit better as we were able to score one  and they scored 5 taking the score up to 12-1 by half time.

This afternoon saw the first game for Fakenham Academy of the season.

There were 4 quarters played, the first quarter started with much determination and eager to get back onto the court and you could definitely feel the same from APHS.

Fakenham Academy Students were given the opportunity to attend a STEM event at Paston college in July The North Norfolk Skills & Careers Festival is a free interactive exhibition for 13-18 year olds in North Norfolk aimed at inspiring young people for their future careers and increasing aware

This week, 30 years ago, Phil Collins was top of charts with 'A Groovy Kind Of Love',  the 1988 Postal Workers Strike ended and the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team were about to compete at the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, and go on to win 5 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Students were rewarded for their hard work and dedication as they collected their GCSE results today.

58% of students achieved grades 9-4 in English and Maths. Our Year 11 leavers will now progress on to the next step in their education, with many going on to study at our sixth form.

GCSE Results will be made available for collection from 8am on Thursday 23rd August in the Main Hall, Field Lane.

Our sixth form students have celebrated another excellent year of A Level Results.

72% of students achieved A*-C, representing a 1% increase on last year’s results.  Speaking on the excellent results, Neil McShane, Interim Principal, said:

Fakenham Academy Students have recently taken part in the Camouflaged Learning Challenge. 22 Fakenham Academy students had in school sessions with Matt and his team from Camouflaged Learning , taking part in team building challenges.

Skills and Careers Festivals- 10th July,2018-Paston College

On Tuesday 10th July a small group of year 9 students visited the North Norfolk Skills and Careers festival at Paston College.

Cluedo came to the academy last week as year 8 investigated the 'murder' of librarian Sally West.

Year 7 History students have been studying Castles as their topic this half term. We have looked at the main types of Castles built asfter the Norman Conquest in 1066; Motte and Bailey, Stone Keep and Concentric Castles.

A Level Geographers from Fakenham Sixth Form completed the final two days of enhanced fieldwork on the north Norfolk coast in July 2018, building upon the two days of fieldwork completed on this coastline in February 2018.

Year 7 have been working hard on understanding the issues surrounding the mass deforestation that is occurring in the Amazon rainforest.

Fakenham Academy hosted its annual Awards Evening on Thursday 5th July 2018. The evening is an opportunity for families and staff to come together to celebrate the achievements of our students and present certificates and awards to them in recognition of these achievements.

On Wednesday 27th of June, A level Art and Photography students exhibited their work for their end of year show. The work was of high quality with some exceptional pieces of pencil tone work and photography.

The year 11 leavers prom took place on the 28th June at Hunters Hall. Staff eagerly awaited the arrivals from 6 pm and we weren't disappointed. A fantastic array of vehicles dropped prom attendees off from tractors to .

From Monday 4th June 2018 Fakenham Academy Eventing Team has successfully gained sponsorship from Wensum Valley Veterinary Surgeons and Grocott and Murfit to help them go further in the sport.

8SC Beta visited Langham Glass in Fakenham to experience glass making as part of the materials topic they are currently studying.

Fakenham selected their best athletes across the school years 7-10 and headed off to the UEA for the Partnership Athletics; the second athletics meet in the calendar after the first one of the summer at Gresham’ School the previous month.

We are delighted to announce that some of our students are now taking part in the Pets As Therapy Read 2 Dogs Programme. The aim of the programme is to improve pupils’ reading and confidence and is proving hugely popular and extremely successful so far!

Along with Mr Lloyd, 9Hi PHi have been studying life on the front line during World War 1. We have been looking at how the trenches were formed and designed, and what life was like in the trenches for the soldiers who lived and fought there.

Schools across Norfolk have been taking part in the GoGo Hares and GoGo Create charity art project. There was an Exhibition of work completed by students, held at Pensthorpe's Wild about the Wensum event on Saturday 12th May, featuring work completed by students at Fakenham Academy, where we can

29th June at 7.30pm.

'Don't destroy the countryside' was the resounding decision from this year's Year 7s after some debate at our annual Homes or Habitats trip to Gressenhall.

In the week prior to the Easter break it was once again that time of year for the year 9 classicists to board the minibus for the annual Latin trip to the Museum of Classical Archaeology in Cambridge.


After the success of Fakenham Academy’s U16’s both boys and girls at the North Norfolk Schools Championships and then the Norfolk Schools Championships it was time to head off to Thetford to represent Norfolk in the Regional School Badminton Championship.

It has been her dream for as long as she can remember.

But despite her mother working three jobs, for Lauren Lloyd the chance to become a professional dancer was out of her reach.

Fakenham U15's hosted KES for the eagerly anticipated semi-final of the Plate Competition. Having lost previously to KES a few years ago, the boys were itching to set the record straight, but knew they would be in for a tough game.

All students in years 7, 8 and 9, have been working on an Art project, looking at how Hares are depicted in art and the plight of the Hare in the English landscape.

The whole of Year 7 took part in a poster competition related to their work in Drama on 'Darkwood Manor.'  A spooky manor house sits on the hill overlooking the village of Darkwood.  The owners wish to sell the mansion but have been unable to due to rumours of the manor being haunted.  A reward h

A Level Geographers from Fakenham Sixth Form completed enhanced fieldwork on the north Norfolk coast in February 2018, building upon the successes of previous physical geography fieldwork at Salthouse to further incorporate and develop the human geography ‘Changing Places’ topic of the AQA A Leve

Due to the severe weather conditions and travel disruption, the Academy and Sixth Form will be closed to staff and students on Friday 2nd March.

Mrs Walker's Year 10 Geography group spent some of their lesson time making these models and diagrams of river features, including Oxbow lakes, Meanders and Waterfalls.

The biggest difference a student can make to their exam results is by working hard in all of their lessons and completing all of their homework.

Last term year 7 we studied England, looking at its physical and human features and how these interacted to make us British. We worked jolly hard and all was tickety boo but felt that something was missing…..

Sustainability. The buzz word in geography and in much of society today. Certainly anyone studying geography from year 7 to 13 should know what it means and maybe also be able to spell it! One of my very favourite examples of sustainability is Oxfam Good Gifts.

The autumn of 2017 was an unusually active time for natural hazards and Year 13 had mixed emotions regarding the fact that we were studying volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes and wildfires at the time.

For my work experience I went to Norfolk’s biggest tourist attraction, Pensthorpe Natural Park. After fighting other students across the county for the right to wear their trainee badge I had five days of work which helped me so much with coping with the world of employment.

I'm a scientist get me out of here is a chat show type event allowing young students to talk to real life scientists for half an hour via an internet chat stream.

On Saturday 5th November 2017, eight Fakenham Academy students went to the U18 Norfolk Badminton Schools Tournament which was held at the Open Academy in Norwich. It was a early start for us all! Arriving at school at 8am so Mrs Price could take us on the minibus then returning around 7pm.

From an early age I have had a passion for science, and upon leaving school I knew this was an area I wanted to pursue.  I studied a BSc in Zoology and afterwards completed a PGCE at the University of East Anglia.

At the end of this half term the Geography Department went home a little heavier after sampling the Bake Off Quality volcano cakes that many Year 7 and 9 students took time to make. The time, effort and imagination from students (and maybe parents and older siblings?!) was commendable.

Last half term Year 8 investigated the microclimate of FAN. A microclimate occurs when the climate of a small area differs from the area around it.

ROBERT BOND is currently a Year 8 pupil at Fakenham Academy Robert partakes in TAE KWON DO, which is a form of Martial Arts. Robert has been doing this for 7 years and is currently U15 World Champion. He has won 28 medals and 15 Trophies.

Charlie Page a Year 9 pupil at Fakenham Academy and a player for the U13's at Fakenham Town FC has become a qualified referee. Charlie started on his road to becoming a referee when he attended the Junior Football Leader Course run by the Norfolk FA.

French national day celebrations at the UEA with a group of Year 9 students. On the 14th July a group of year 9 students were invited by the UEA to celebrate “le quatorze juillet”-”Bastille Day” through 2 workshops and a visit of the University of East-Anglia.

The Year 10 Textiles and Art students went to the Norwich University of the Arts exhibition on Monday 3rd July.

We took 19 sports leaders to assist in the delivery of Fakenham Junior School's sports day. The leaders were paired up and each pair had to run an activity on rotation for years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The highly successful Fakenham Academy Norfolk Badminton Team has been granted the support of Tesco's 'Bags of Help' Scheme, where shoppers are given token to vote for a project to receive funding towards its activities. 

On the 22nd and the 23rd May Year 7 went on a trip to Gressenhall to study how farmers can diversify. Our main focus was ‘Homes or Habitats?’ The day was based around four people who took on the roles of people who may have an interest in this issue.

We are pleased to show you our “new” drama studio! As part of our exciting move to create our new Fakenham Sixth Form we have put lots of time, effort and money into our new Drama Studio. Complete redecoration - new seating - new flooring and new heating.

Our new staff room has been unveiled and the staff have moved in already. The staff have moved out of their large staff room and into a much smaller one to allow more space for students and their old staff room will be converted into a brand new library for the School.

 A small group of Year 9 and 10 students recently took part in another 'Taster Day' at the Easton and Otley College Easton Campus. This time the students took part in Tasters in: Public Services, Animal Care and Horticulture. The idea is to give school students a taste of colleg life.

On Friday 24th March, Fakenham Academy students took part in fundraising activities for Comic Relief. Students paid £1 to wear non-school uniform for the day. We completed a display of beautifully designed red nose day characters in the foyer, and there was also opportunity to buy red noses.

On the 7th March the Fakenham Academy badminton team went to see the International Badminton qualifiers at The Barclaycard arena in Birmingham.

On Tuesday the 14th March, a strong and confident Fakenham Academy team took on Sheringham in a football game to take them to top of the league, leapfrogging North Walsham who we had already defeated 4-3, so this would be well deserved.

On the 9th of March 2017 the year 12 and 13 psychology students took part in a live chat with psychologists taking part in the ‘I’m a Psychologist, Get me Out of Here’ competition.

Year 11 Revision Guide

Fakenham Academy beat Hethersett 5-4 in the final game of the mixed to decide who were to become Champions and win the trophy. 

After the first 6 games the score was 3-3 so it all depended on their final 3 games of which the team that won 2 of the 3 would win the title. 

The year 7 girls played two 7 a-side fixtures against Dereham Neatherd. For most of the team, this is their first experience of playing in a competitive match. Both fixtures were well contested but resulted in victories for Fakenham. A big well done to all the girls who took part.

On the 2nd February 2017, a group of year nine students from Fakenham Academy Norfolk got the chance to go to Easton and Otley college for the morning. The trip was about maths on the farm and how maths is applied in a real situation. Our tutors for the day were Danny and Andrew.

Starting in 2017 with English and maths, new GCSEs in England will be graded from 9 to 1, with 9 being the top grade.

On Friday 3rd March the following students who had earned the right as one of the top 6 rowers in North Norfolk were heading to the UEA in Norwich for the Norfolk Partnership Games. The highlight for them was been driven by Mrs Price. Honestly.

On Friday, Lloyd’s Bank came to visit Fakenham Academy and came to talk to us about banking. One of the bankers told the class that they had been with Lloyds since they were sixteen so they had seen the many changes that Lloyd’s Bank had been through over the years.

The latest update to our exciting move for September 2017 is the creation of a brand new music room, new music store cupboard and two practice rooms. These were completed ahead of schedule and well within budget.

On the 22nd of February, three students from Year 9; Emily Bingham, Megan Canning and Louis Singleton; attended a sports coaching course held at Easton College. There were children attending from lots of different schools across the region.

On Monday the 27th of February 2017, the Fakenham Academy Norfolk Year 11 football team took on a decent Aylsham side to go top of the league for the time being.

Fakenham Academy U14A & U14B boys travelled to Taverham, a new venue and team for the boys to play.
The U14A boys won 9-0 and the U14B boys won 6-3.

Fakenham Academy U12 Girls were crowned Norfolk School Badminton Champions 2016-2017 after beating Hethersett Old Hall Girls School 7-2.

As part of the forthcoming move to Fakenham Sixth Form being moved onto one site the School is having up to £750,000 investment in the Field Lane site. This week the very first visible sign of this was seen with the opening of a new Textiles room in the Technology Block.

On the 7th February a selected group of year 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's took part in the North Norfolk table tennis and indoor rowing partnership competition. In true school spirit, we had large numbers and at least one student in every age category.


On Tuesday 17th January more than 20 students braved the cold conditions to represent Fakenham Academy in a Cross Country event at North Walsham.  The sun managed to come out but it was still very cold and muddy.  Well done to all those that took part and who qualified for the next round.

Glenn and Jan came into school to visit most of year 9, 10 and 11. The aim was to inform us about unions so that in the future, we can make an informed decision about whether we want to join or not.

Joe Lockhart, James Barrett, Tyler Cater, Will Warnes & Alfie Cator were crowned U14 Champions and Kerry Ann Lee, Joanna Barton, Maddie Curl and Ella Scallan became the Girls U16 Champions. 

The Friends of Fakenham Academy are holding the annual indoor Car Boot sale on Saturday 25th February at the Main Hall on Field Lane from 10.00am-12.30pm.

Fakenham Academy U12 Girls were crowned Norfolk School Badminton Champions 2016-2017 after beating Hethersett Old Hall Girls School 7-2. 

Along with other Year 10 students from across Norfolk, a small group of interested FAN students, including some undertaking their YouthSTEMM Award, attended the above event at the UEA recently.

We were visited by some soldiers in our Learning for Life lesson.  They came to work with us, encouraging us to work in groups to solve problems. The problems tested different skills.  Some groups had to work out a design for a new helmet and had to think about all the different parts needed.

In our Learning for Life lesson, we were visited by PC Nattrass, who is part of the traffic police. The traffic police keep our roads safe from speeding and drink driving. PC Nattrass did a presentation about the “Fatal 4” which are speeding, mobile phones, seat belts and drunk driving.

On Wednesday 14 December, the year 10 studying French took on the exciting challenge of going to Sculthorpe Primary school to teach “Petit Papa Noel” a typical French Christmas song to Key Stage 2 students.

In December we were learning about the Development Gap between countries and looking at how we can do things to enable the lives of children in less developed countries to be improved. One way in which to do this is by giving aid but it has to be done sustainably.

In our Learning for Life lesson, we were visited by Justin, Brent and April from Tarmac company.  April was a lorry driver. They brought in a huge 32 ton tipper truck.  Justin showed us all the blind spots.  These were the areas where the driver was unable to see cyclists or pedestrians.

On Tuesday 6th of December, some UEA students visited Fakenham Academy Year 9 students. They talked about crimes to do with social media. They had made a PowerPoint for us to look at and it was interesting and full of facts.

From the 7th of December to the 15th of December the year 10 drama group has been doing a traveling panto around the local primary school’s for example Blenheim Park, Little Snoring, Stibbard, FJS, Sculthorpe and Fakenham Infants.A Lot  of time and effort has been put into all of the performances

As part of their Level 2 Award in Hospitality and Catering, Fakenham Academy's Y10 Catering Students organized an Afternoon Tea event for staff and guests on the second of December. All 30 students took part in the event, for which they had been planning and practicing for since October.

On the 8th November the A-level mathematicians braved the annual UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. This is a 90 minutes paper with 25 multiple choice questions. The questions are challenging and require creative use of maths to solve correctly.

On the 12th September 2016, our family started a sponsored swim challenge in aid of Aspire.  We decided to take on this challenge because we wanted to help this charity with their fundraising.

Musical Soiree Evening - Friday 18th November

We held our annual Senior Soiree recently and welcomed student performers and an audience of family and friends. What a delight it was to hear senior students perform solo in a wide range of disciplines.


Here at the Friends we thought it would be a good idea to tell you a little bit about ourselves and what we do. The Friends have been in existence for many years and over that time have changed many times.

North Norfolk Christmas Market - Saturday 5th November 2016


Fakenham U14 Girls welcomed and hosted both Wymondham and Reepham to play all 3 games on one night.

Former student Will Mcgregor came into Fakenham Academy and Fakenham College on Friday 12th November to talk to Film and Media Studies students about his progression from being at Fakenham High School to becoming a director of film and cinema. 

The game was at home against APHS and the weather was freezing. Once again we went into the game with our heads dropped after our last game against them, where we lost 7-1.

This was the first of many badminton matches that Fakenham Academy would play in the Norfolk Schools Badminton League. The boys were both excited and apprehensive, as was I, as we climbed into the minibus and headed to Ormiston Victory near Norwich.

My name is David Sperring and I rejoined the staff at FAN this September as Lead of Technology. I first started teaching at Fakenham High School in 1993 as a newly qualified teacher of DT having graduated from the College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth.

Well done to all the pupils who played against Alderman Peel High School in the football match on Wed 19th October 2016.

Last Wednesday the year 10 netball team went to APHS for their first fixture of the year. The team we played were slightly younger however still provided a challenge for our team, nevertheless we won 13-6, Joanna scoring 8 and Annabelle 5.

I am throuroughly enjoying my new role as a teaching assistant at Fakenham Academy Norfolk so far. It is giving me the experience I need to go on and apply for teaching training in the future.

From the 18th-30th of October, Norwich hosted the Norwich Science Festival; two weeks of exhibitions, guest speakers, activities and lectures based at the Forum and other venues around the city.

Fakenham traveled to Alderman Peel High School in high hopes on the back of a successful season last year. Fakenham started strong winning the ball in the opening seconds and driving at goal immediately.

Wednesday 12th October was our Open Evening for Year 6 students and their parents. We had a packed hall with over 320 people and the evening ran from 6-30pm through to 9pm for those who wanted to stay until then.

Fakenham set off to North Walsham where we lost 8-2 in the previous year with our heads down thinking the same result was going to happen. We walked out onto the pitch in our nice new bright green kits raring to go and get something out of the match.


Monday 26th September 2016 was the European Languages Day, where every school in Europe celebrates foreign languages.

This year, students at FAN were presented with two different challenges:

Fakenham Academy Friends staged their quiz on Friday 30th September. This annual event, now in its third year, attracted 17 teams who had a fun-packed night. There were 10 rounds on subjects such as History [favourite of the Principal], superheroes, geography, tv soaps and much more.

An opportunity to experience life as a College student at the Fakenham College Taster Day. Try out new subjects, learn about what the courses involve from our subject specialists and experience high quality teaching. A free lunch will be supplied.

On Wednesday 14th September, 3 Fakenham College students were presented with cheques from The Fakenham Charities to support their education.

Tom Daly, 16, Courtney Robinson-Heath, 16 and Zachary Green, 18, were each awarded £300 towards the cost of their studies.

The Youth STEMM award is very much like the "Duke of Edinburgh" award but for Science Technology Engineering Maths and Medicine.

We are always looking for ways in which we can make learning interesting and relevant for our students in addition to giving them opportunities to explore where their next step may take them.

Its that time of year again and why not take the opportunity to grab some Christmas gifts and support the Academy at the same time?

During the last week of the summer term we invite all of the local primary schools to send some students to our "FIRE!" sessions.

Students are taken through the science of fire and fire safety, as well as learning how to light a Bunsen burner.
