At Fakenham Academy we are passionate about the importance of good quality, impartial and independent careers information, advice and guidance. The work we do within careers education and through other activities aims to raise aspirations of our young people. We endeavour to make sure that they are well informed about the changing world of work and the opportunities available to them. We assist them to make well placed and effective applications to Sixth form, College or Apprenticeships and Work-based learning.
We aim to meet the personalised needs of each of our future workers. To aide us with this goal we focus on the 8 Gatsby benchmarks of good careers guidance
The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experience of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
To achieve this, we work with our Enterprise Coordinator and Enterprise Adviser from New Anglia Enterprise Adviser Network and have completed the compass tool
The Careers Team:
Jacqui Waring – Assistant Head – Designated Career Lead
Christine Walton – RCDP – Academy IAG and Placement Co-Ordinator - at Fakenham Academy Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most of Christine's time is spent seeing students from Years 9 to 13, for individual guidance interviews. During these appointments she discusses with students their future career ideas and offers independent, impartial careers guidance about the range of education and training options available to them.
Sally West – Librarian and Careers Facilitor – Sally works alongside Christine and organisers careers and work experience appointments and maintains internal records of work experience positions and careers appointments.
