I have once again had the pleasure of working with Year 5 students at Astley Primary School, Briston, contributing to their work on studies of rivers.
Fakenham College A Level Geographers, were fortunate to by visited by Richard Cook, Civil Contingencies Manager, North Norfolk District Council.
THURSDAY 9TH MARCH- ‘WILLKOMMEN IN DEUTSCHLAND’
On the 20th of April 2017 Professor Jean-Marc Lawton hosted the Psychology Revision Conference for 42 students. Professor Lawton is a psychology rock star. He lectures, writes books, examines and conducts research in psychology.
15th May to 29th June:

UCAS Conference at UEA, all Year 12 students.
On Friday 24th March a group of Year 12 students were given the unique opportunity to be involved in the design of the new Sixth Form building at the Field Lane site.

College Intervention and Revision Sessions 2017
In addition to intervention and revision taking place in lessons the following sessions are taking place:
● Biology - Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8.55 to 9.15am
On the 9th of March 2017 the year 12 and 13 psychology students took part in a live chat with psychologists taking part in the ‘I’m a Psychologist, Get me Out of Here’ competition.

AS/A Level Geographers completed their fieldwork on the north Norfolk coast in February 2017, studying the impact of storm surges on beach levels at Sheringham, Weybourne and Salthouse.

On Tuesday 7th February, 24 of our students took part in a Level Two Emergency First Aid in the Workplace course. Our first aid course with Nigel, an ex-police officer, lasted all day and covered a range of topics and skills.
Introducing the College Council
At the beginning of December, six Fakenham College students were invited for interview at Oxbridge (Cambridge and Oxford university). This is an immense achievement as only students with the highest grades are considered. Three students have been offered places: Jonnie - Medicine at Cambridge
On Tuesday the 6th of December, myself and seventeen other students were invited to participate in a "Street Law” event" hosted by UEA Law students.
On Monday the 6th of February, former Fakenham College student James Woods and a team of Infrared Spectroscopy experts visited the college to give an insight into life as a chemistry student at university.
Fakenham College is moving in September 2017. We are moving to the main academy site on Field Lane. As part of the move Fakenham College will be renamed Fakenham Sixth Form.
The class of 2016 students from Fakenham Academy and College were presented with their GCSE and A Level certificates last week. It was a record level of success in terms of exam results last summer for both year groups.
For the past year, Fakenham College Council has been raising money for West Norfolk Mind, a mental health charity. The College voted this to be our charity-of-the-year when the Council first took over in January.

On Friday 21st October, students dressed up for Halloween. There was face painting, a cake sale and a further £90 was raised for MIND charity.
In October we welcomed the Slomans to the college. Martyn and Anne will be working with Year 12 students in a mentoring capacity. Here Martyn reflects on and looks forward to the experience.

From the 18th-30th of October, Norwich hosted the Norwich Science Festival; two weeks of exhibitions, guest speakers, activities and lectures based at the Forum and other venues around the city.
For the past year, Fakenham College Council has been raising money for West Norfolk MIND, the mental health charity. It was a year filled with bake sales; Valentine’s day, Easter, Summer time, Halloween, Christmas.
On 11th November I went to London to The Old Vic Theatre, with the SportsAid team and RBC. When I was there, we had lunch and talked to everyone. The opening statements were made and we then went into the theatre.
I experienced Will McGregor’s visit on the 11th November 2016 as part of his presentation to Year 12 and 13 Film Studies students. During the hour we spent with him he told us about how he started with a hand held camera and made his way all the way up to cinema cameras.
On the 8th November the A-level mathematicians braved the annual UKMT Senior Maths Challenge. This is a 90 minutes paper with 25 multiple choice questions. The questions are challenging and require creative use of maths to solve correctly.
Former student Will Mcgregor came into Fakenham Academy and Fakenham College on Friday 12th November to talk to Film and Media Studies students about his progression from being at Fakenham High School to becoming a director of film and cinema.
On Wednesday 14th September, 3 Fakenham College students were presented with cheques from The Fakenham Charities to support their education.
Tom Daly, 16, Courtney Robinson-Heath, 16 and Zachary Green, 18, were each awarded £300 towards the cost of their studies.
